FLY VADYM…
We fought… we gave everything and we would give much more… you know that, dear Vadym.
You’re no longer invisible. We couldn’t erase all the life you had before you came to our shelter, but we know you had the best life we could give you. You’ve always been a fighter and we admire you for all that. We can’t imagine what life must have been like for you. We don’t know what you went through, but we know it wasn’t good. We don’t know what you suffered, but your body spoke for you. And you resisted…
When we rescued you, you had fear tattooed in your eyes and neglect mixed into your fur. Your eyes told your whole story… and what a story it must have been. You were a hero who showed that neglect is real. Thanks to you, we were able to show that it’s not enough to have a roof over your head to be protected. You were the banner that spread the word that four walls may not be enough to make a home… and you resisted…
You’ve lost hell and gained hope. You lost a past and gained a name. You gained a purpose and you gained hope. And you resisted.
We saw you gain fur. We cried with joy as we saw you gain a sparkle in your eyes and a desire to play. You could feel the warmth of a hug, the comfort of a kiss, the warmth of a blanket and the love of being called by name because you existed. We gave and we did, but the disease rode faster than we could manage. We spent what we had to, but we weren’t fast enough. We publicised everything we could but we weren’t fast. It won and took you away, but unknowingly left your memory with us and that’s what we’ll continue to keep alive. Fly high Vadym! We’ll miss you!
Vadym was taken from a neglected situation and received all the treatment and care we could, but hepatic encephalopathy got the better of him. We are heartbroken by his departure, but we are grateful for all the help we have received. There are many Vadyms who suffer abuse and complaints must not be silenced. It’s not just on the street that they are in danger. Never be silent. Don’t be complicit in this crime because only then will there be no more Vadyms!
